Artist's Comments

I bought an infrared filter to go on the front of my Olympus E-20, and this is one of the results. It was taken in the middle of the day, with a ten-second exposure on a tripod, and I had no way to judge the composition because the viewfinder was much too dark, so I had to take lots of shots.

composition is excellent... but it's bluerred, no?

As I understand it, infrared and visible light focus differently. In any case I could only set it on infinity and hope for the best.

I never used this filter, but isn't it possible to focus and after put the filter?

I could have done that. I was worried that the act of screwing the filter into the lens would throw the focus off, and also the camera was only six inches off the ground (which was dusty and had ants). My other worry was that if I stopped down to increase the depth of field, I'd end up with a exposure longer than thirty seconds, which is the maximum the camera does (this was ten seconds at f3.6). But then again most of the infrared shots I have seen have a diffuse glow, perhaps it's a property of the photographic process. I need to read up on infrared.

good luck ;-)
